The move Nxe4 by Black is played to exploit White's mistake of placing their knight on c3 and force an exchange of pieces. This move also attacks White's pawn on e4 and opens up the d-file for development of Black's queen. By capturing the pawn on e4, Black also gains more control over the center and can threaten White's position.

2020年7月27日 · 5...Nxe4 is playable in this position and is called 'Open Ruy Lopez'. It is the second most often played move after 5...Be7, which is the 'Closed Ruy Lopez'. The last time i checked 5...Nxe4 was playable for black.

2014年7月8日 · Black makes a temporary sacrifice of the knight, and if White plays 5.Nxe4, Black can play ...d5 with a fork which wins back the piece. This tactical trick does not win any material for Black, but knocking out the important White center pawn on e4 has secured Black a good foothold in the center.
