Find a counsellor - NZAC
Choosing a counsellor who is an NZAC member provides assurance that they meet the ethical and professional standards you expect when seeking help. Counsellors work according to the ethical values and principles of the NZAC Code of Ethics which protect clients’ privacy and safety as well as providing a robust complaints process.
Thinking of becoming a counsellor - NZAC
In order to qualify as a professional Counsellor and attain membership of NZAC, Counsellors need to hold either a Bachelor or a Master degree in Counselling. Counsellor education programmes at Bachelor or Master level are offered by a number of tertiary institutions in Aotearoa/New Zealand (see list below).

This session, hosted by the NZAC Membership Manager, is designed to help you plan and track the activities you need to complete in the coming months. It is the first in a series of 4 sessions. The other sessions will be held in April, June and September. The support series will follow the Provisional Membership Journey document.

There are seven membership categories within NZAC. Student Affiliate. Student Affiliates are individuals enrolled in a counselling training programme with a New Zealand Counselling training provider. Overseas Qualifications - NZAC
Provisional Membership of NZAC is open to Counsellors with qualifications from outside New Zealand, who meet the following criteria: A minimum of a Bachelor of Counselling qualification from a professional counsellor education programme. The qualification must be the equivalent of a New Zealand Level 7 qualification as assessed by NZQA.
