This method achieves the most accurate and uniform method of heighting.

Bench marks where a known height above mean sea level as measured at Newlyn in Cornwall the Ordnance Datum Newlyn or ODN for short. This is the national height system for mainland Great Britain and is the reference frame for heights above mean sea level.

Where there are no benchmarks on or near the site, a suitable datum must be established. A site datum or temporary benchmark could be a post set in concrete or a concrete plinth set up on site.
