The EMD SD60 is a 3,800 horsepower (2,800 kW), six-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, intended for heavy-duty drag freight or medium-speed freight service. It was introduced in 1984, and production ran until 1995.

One-and-only EMD nose heralded SD60 on the empty Ardoch Coal southbound on the Hillsboro... Here's a roster-type shot to show the difference between this unit and the rest of the Oakway fleet... Second time in a month and a half that I've caught this Oakway with unique paint.

2014年4月24日 · The Electromotive Division SD60 is a 6 axle, 3,800 HP diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD from 1984 until 195. It used the then all-new 16 cylinder 710 engine rated at 3,800 HP. Though the SD60 looked like an SD50 outwardly, it was completely different inside.

2010年3月29日 · The Oakway SD60’s are noted for pioneering the “power-by-the-hour” concept. This was also an attempt by management to evade existing shopcraft union contracts which barred outsourcing of maintenance and overhaul. The IAM and other unions rightfully blew the whistle on this maneuver and the SD60’s were maintained by BN employees.

"The EMD diesels are leased by Oakway Inc., and maintained at a new, $4.5 million repair facility in North Kansas City, Mo. The agreement with Oakway is for 15 years." "The first EMD locomotives delivered in late 1986 were maintained in a shop at Weston, Colo., with repairs performed by non-union craftsmen under EMD supervision."

2024年12月18日 · This powerful engine boasted an impressive 3,800 horsepower, firmly positioning the SD60 as a heavy-haul and drag service powerhouse. The SD60 featured GM's innovative D87B traction motor, delivering a remarkable 98,250 pounds of starting and 100,000 pounds of continuous tractive effort.

The SD60 units have since been auctioned off to various leasing companies, while some have since been acquired by CN. Only a handful of ex-Oakway SD60 units still retain their original liveries and numbers. The original three BN SD60 units are now in service with CSX as a result of a purchase in 2001, and have since been renumbered.
