2025年2月1日 · A Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA, or Form FS-240) is a document that shows a child got U.S. citizenship at birth. Report the birth of a child born abroad at a U.S. embassy or consulate overseas .

We issue CRBAs to children under age 18 who were born abroad and got U.S. citizenship or nationality at birth. The names on the CRBA include the parents who have a genetic or gestational connection to the child. The parent (s) passing U.S. citizenship to their child must have their name (s) on the CRBA.

U.S. citizens eligible to transmit citizenship are required to file for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA). The CRBA application must be made before the child’s 18th birthday, and we strongly recommend that parents apply for the CRBA as soon as possible after the child’s birth.
