2025年1月24日 · Ontario is investing $2 billion to refurbish and expand hydroelectric stations across Northern Ontario, adding about four per cent to the stations’ generating capacity. Electricity demand in Northern Ontario is projected to rise by 81 per cent by 2050, according to the Independent Electricity System Operator.

In northern rivers alone, there are about 4,000 megawatts of potential power, or enough electricity to power about 3.5 million homes. OPG is working with local Indigenous communities to actively explore new hydroelectric development opportunities.
