The Order of Friars Minor Capuchin (Latin: Ordo Fratrum Minorum Capuccinorum; postnominal abbr. OFMCap) is a religious order of Franciscan friars within the Catholic Church, one of three "First Orders" that reformed from the Franciscan Friars Minor Observant (OFMObs, now OFM), the other being the Conventuals (OFMConv).

Today, there are six Capuchin provinces in the United States. The Province of St. Joseph covers the upper Midwest and numerically is the largest province in America with approximately 170 friars who serve in communities from Detroit to Montana. www.thecapuchins.org. Jesus of Nazareth is our guide in leading a simple and humble life in the midst of the people around us. Our inspiration comes from the life of Christ, Sacred Scripture, and the example and writings of St. Francis of Assisi.

As Capuchin Franciscans, we follow Saint Francis of Assisi as brothers, living the Gospel in prayer, fraternity and ministry, witnessing simply to Jesus Christ and the Church as a joyful presence of hope and salvation to all, especially to those most in need. We are involved in a variety of ministries focused on bringing the Gospel to God’s people.

Capuchins can be found working in soup kitchens and homeless shelters, serving as hospital chaplains or prison ministers, confessors and spiritual directors. Capuchins can also be found in some of the city’s poorest parishes. The Capuchins build their life and ministry on two essential foundations: prayer and fraternity.
