An orthophoto, orthophotograph, orthoimage or orthoimagery is an aerial photograph or satellite imagery geometrically corrected ("orthorectified") such that the scale is uniform: the photo or image follows a given map projection.

We've all seen blueprints that show top views, side views and front and rear views and so on drawn in what is known as "orthographic" representation. This is a view that ignores the perspective distortion we see in real life objects.

An Ortho-mosaic takes input from multiple input photos and produces one output ortho-photo. The calculation of an ortho-photo takes into account the 3D surface representation, the 3D photo positions, and the camera characteristics to provide a distortion-free view of the surface in an orthographic projection.

Capture nadir photos at the desired flight altitude at 80/80 percent overlap at least. Add other types of flights to the mix, such as orbitals and obliques, if you are using a non-RTK drone or have no GCPs in the project. Additional data helps to avoid bowing or other unwanted effects and results in a better surface quality.
