Othniel (/ ˈ ɒ θ n i əl /; Hebrew: עָתְנִיאֵל בֶּן־קְנַז, ʿOṯnīʾēl ben Qǝnaz) was the first of the biblical judges. The etymology of his name is uncertain, but may mean "God/He is my strength" or "God has helped me".

2022年1月4日 · Othniel is the first of 12 judges listed in the Book of Judges. His judgeship covered a transitional period connecting the leaders of the past to the leaders of his time. He was related to Caleb, who had left Egypt as a freed slave and entered the Promised Land as a leader.

OTHNIEL ŏth’ nĭ əl (עָתְנִיאֵ֣ל, Γοθονιήλ; meaning uncertain: lion of God and God is might have been suggested). The first deliverer or judge of the Israelites (Judg 3:7-11). In Judges 1:13 and 3:9 he is said to be “the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.”

Othniel was a member of the tribe of Judah and one of the minor judges in the Bible. He delivered the transgressing Israelites from eight years of oppression by Cushan-Rishathaim (meaning doubly-wicked blackness), King of Mesopotamia.
