Suddenly Dropbox wrote to me that my space is full, I checked the folder on my desktop and it only contains 1.88 gigs, not 2! Checking on Dropbox online, I saw that it indicates that I occupy 6 GB out of 2, but I have only inserted files for 1.88 gigabytes!

If you have a Basic 2GB account, and someone shared with you a folder that's 2GB or more, that would immediately reduce your quota, and put you out of space. If you wish, you can ask the user to share a link with you, but that would allow you to view and download the file, and not edit.

Finally, please remember that permanently removing already deleted files doesn't free up storage as deleted files and folders don't take up space in your account. With no recent changes, I am getting an alert that I am out of storage space (22GB). Previously I was at less than half. I checked the size of all the folders and files (on the web client) and the largest folder is 2GB and a few with around 800MB, but it's not possible they add up to 22GB.

On Mac, Removing a file from your Dropbox is as simple as dragging and dropping it somewhere out of your Dropbox folder. If you'd like to delete it, drag the file or folder to your Mac's Trash. Hello. I am on Windows 11 and I am downloading multiple mp4 files from a site called Cuberush. While downloading multiple of these files to Dropbox at once, I ran out of space in Dropbox. I have cleared out space and was hoping that the remaining files would resume downloading. My question seems to have already been answered though.

In other words, a 2 GB account can't sync more than 2 GB. Since every member of a shared folder can add/edit shared content, the shared folder takes up space in each member's account. This policy exists to prevent people from giving themselves unlimited space by stacking Basic accounts and shared folders.
