An ōdzutsu (大筒, 'big cylinder') was a type of Japanese hand cannon used during the Sengoku and early Edo periods. The ōdzutsu was used primarily in naval and siege battles during the Sengoku period for its efficiency in destroying large enemy structures.

The Ozutsu is a heavy ranged gunpowder unit in Age of Empires IV: The Sultans Ascend that is unique to the Japanese and can only be trained at the Tanegashima Gunsmith in the Imperial Age.

Right off the bat you can get a free bombard and 2 ozutsu (definitely a strong, and deceptively tanky, gunpowder unit), or 5 ozutsu with the free tickets. And it replenishes every 30 seconds, which is much faster than waiting for the caravans.

Ozutsu has been nerfed quite severely. In most of my Japanese matches, they don't appear frequently. However, he's particularly vulnerable to melee units like Knight,Horsemen, MAA, or even Spearmen, as ranged units don't deal much damage to him. TL;DR: No, they're not OP, and trebuchets are a bad unit to compare them to.

2023年10月31日 · Edit: actually I need to make a correction here. The one I was thinking of was made of cast bronze, which WAS an early model, the Ozutsu was made of forged iron, and actually succeeded the bronze model and was in use until the Edo period.
