Mar 5, 2009 · I was driving home last night and got the dreaded "Check Engine" light. Scangauge said code was "P0497" Internet search shows "Evaporative Emissions Purge Valve" is the cause. Went to Tyson's smart service first thing this morning. Back on the road in less than an hour, covered under warranty.

Nov 13, 2011 · Jet - nope, no talking seats, stuttering engines, flatulent exhausts - just a stupid CEL and P0497. Could be that it missed during a start, and I didn't catch it, but otherwise, unless it is distressed over the comments made by an insecure SUV driver, seems to be fine. Cleared the code, no repeat.

Mar 3, 2010 · my smartbiru threw a code this morning. It's P0497 on the Scangauge, which, according to this thread, shows the Evaporative Emissions Purge Valve went south. The smartcenter Pittsburgh is about 60 miles away, and I am wondering if it is okay to drive there for the fix. The CEL is not blinking, but my scangauge could not erase it, either.

Jan 2, 2012 · Rustedwrench, Great explanation of the evaporative emissions system, thanks. :thanks_smile: While I agree that throwing parts at a fault code may not be the proper solution, for many smart owners the time and distance to the "local" smart Center may outweigh the smart/MB diagnostic (itself a crap shoot) cost.

Dec 1, 2014 · 2 weeks ago I got a code on my scan gauge of P0497 which is the purge valve. It was only that one time. This morning I left the house and drove maybe a mile and it started shaking a little like an engine misfire. It stayed that way the rest of the trip to work (9miles). I did notice that it seemed fine at high RPMs.
