The M19 Mortar is a light, smoothbore, muzzle-loading, high-angle-of-fire weapon for light infantry support developed and produced in the United States. It has been replaced in service by the more modern 60 mm M224 mortar, which has a much longer range and improved ammunition.

The great speed with which a 60-mm mortar system can be brought into action greatly enhances platoon and company sized elements to effectively inflict heavy casualties on the enemy. The Rangers also employ additional mortar systems which are used for situations where the 60-mm would be impractical due to range limitations and other considerations.

2017年8月17日 · The M19 60mm mortar (the US equivalent to the British 2-inch) was developed during World War 2 for infantry-level support actions to provide for a reusable, lightweight, high-angle of fire weapon system to replace the M2 mortars then in use.

The mortars are smooth-bore, muzzle-loading, high angle-of fire weapons. The 60-mm mortar M2 and the 81-mm mortars M1 and M29 consist of a tube and base cap containing a fixed firing pin. The M19 is a conventional muzzle loaded, drop fired, smoothbore mortar. It has a longer and heavier barrel than the M2. The M19 is fitted with a bipod and square baseplate. The M19 can also be fitted M1 baseplate, with elevation being done manually. The M19 can be set to be drop fired or fire by trigger lever.

WW2 U.S. M19 60mm PARATROOP MORTAR (non-firing display) U.S. Marine Raider and Army Airborne units benefited from a light 60mm mortar assembly rushed to the front in 1942. Roughly a 20 lb. mortar, this allowed a savings of 25+ lbs. over the standard M2 mortar, and allowed for more ammo to be carried.
