The XP-31 featured the first enclosed cockpit on a U.S. pursuit aircraft and was also the last pursuit aircraft to have fixed landing gear and externally braced wings.

i love these airplanes they were the fastest ones of their times. the P-51 Mustang was able to fly 2 feet from the ground. the P-31 Lightening was the fastest bomber of WWII. the P-40 Warhawk was used in the catastrophe at Pearl Harbor and was able to stop the Japenese from bombing it even more.
