PDE1 is a group of enzymes that require both calcium and calmodulin for their activity. They are encoded by three genes in humans and are involved in the degradation of cyclic nucleotides, specifically cGMP and cAMP. The exact function of PDE1 in the airways smooth muscle is currently unknown.
