The PK (Russian: Пулемёт Калашникова, transliterated as Pulemyot Kalashnikova, or "Kalashnikov's machine gun"), [4] is a belt-fed general-purpose machine gun, chambered for the 7.62×54mmR rimmed cartridge. The PK series is a belt fed Kalashnikov design in 7.62x54mmR, and is more a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) vs. a Squad Automatic Weapon (SAW), which is what the RPD was designed for.

The PKM has a lighter barrel, otherwise, it should work just fine. Receiver is different too, compare them in terms of rivets etc.. The dimensions of the receiver and internal parts look the same.
