SU46 (new symbol [2] 5 630) is the name for a diesel universal purpose locomotive working for Polish PKP. Cegielski has produced 52 machines in years 1974-1977 and 2 modified in 1985. The 302D (class SP47) and 303D type (class SU46) locomotives are heavily improved version of 301Db type (class SP/SU45) diesel locomotive.

When PKP was split into several companies in 2001, SU46s went to PKP Cargo which, according to rosters quoted in AL, in 2004 had 36 examples. PKP InterCity hired some of them, but later decided to introduce a new diesel locomotive for passenger traffic, which finally materialized in 2014 as class SU160 (factory type 111Db) from PESA .

HCP 303D (seria SU46) – polska lokomotywa spalinowa produkowana w latach 1974–1977 i 1985 przez zakłady HCP w Poznaniu dla PKP. Łącznie wyprodukowano 54 sztuki tego typu. Projekt lokomotywy SU46 powstał w 1972 (równolegle z projektem SP47) i był rozwinięciem konstrukcji spalinowozu SP45.

Als Baureihe SU46 bezeichnen die Polnischen Staatsbahnen (PKP) sechsachsige Strecken- Diesellokomotiven für den universellen Einsatz. Noch vor dem Ende des Baus der Baureihe SP45 (1976) wurde mit dem Bau zweier Prototypen einer Nachfolgebaureihe mit höherer Leistung, elektrischer Zugheizung und neugestaltetem Lokomotivkasten begonnen.

First SU46s in PKP service were used mainly with heavy express passenger trains, for which SP45s had been too weak. Modest deliveries of heavy passenger diesel locomotives never allowed for complete elimination of steam traction, which remained in regular service in Poland much longer than in other European countries.
