2023年2月24日 · These were small electric locomotives, run either singly as a B1 or as a twin unit BB1, and were primarily used as yard goats, moving cars hither and yon in the electrified yards of the PRR. Here's a photo of a prototype B1 that I took at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, where it has been carefully preserved.

Capable of shuffling up to (15) cars at a time, the B1’s were powered by (3) traction motors rated at only 233hp each, but they still produced a massive 39,250lb of tractive effort. They were designed with cab controls on both ends for back and forth operations. A single centered pantograph provided 11,000V of power.
