So you know what the PRR called the color of paint you want to apply to your model, your shed in the back yard, etc., but how do you go about selecting an available paint? First, you should have a brief understanding of colors. Different media have different models for describing how they depict colors. Here are just a few of them:
GG1 Paint Schemes
These are the paint schemes applied to the GG1 over the course of the Pennsy. The green was actually darker, but is shown light here in order to contrast with black. Early Prototype Scheme1934 PRR: Dark Green, block pinstriping, small number keystone. Developed by the PRR, this scheme predates the Loewy design.

2003年12月11日 · I have tried several times to find out the standard colors used by PRR for their towers, stations, sheds, etc. used in the Northeast. No one seems to know. I have a lot of books and the PRR color drift cards but “the Standard Railroad of the World” does not appear to use standards for their building colors.
Susan Yosten has provided a large amount of PRR color data by PRR account reference numbers some of which have been included here. The bulk of the remainder will be added if we can find the reference numbers and what they define.

Early Prototype Scheme 1934 PRR: Dark Green, block pinstriping, small number keystone. Developed by the PRR, this scheme predates the Loewy design. A similar design was used on the R1 experimental. Late Prototype Scheme 1935 PRR: Dark Green, Wide 5 gold pinstripes and gold sans-serif Futura lettering, small number keystone.

Some electric locomotives and most passenger-hauling diesel locomotives were also painted in Tuscan Red. Freight cars of the PRR had their own color, known as "Freight Car Color," an iron-oxide shade of red.

2008年2月1日 · Yes, the PRR had at least three color schemes for wooden buildings. It was more or less up to the Division Superintendent or Regional Manager to decide which to use. One of them was a two tone grey with dark tuscan red trim. PRR painted the Highlandtown freight office in Baltimore using that scheme in 1966.
