Pennsylvania Railroad class E2c comprised a pair of experimental C-C or Co-Co electric locomotives. The bodywork and running gear was produced by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton while the electrical equipment was provided by Westinghouse, [2] who also acted as principal contractor.

In the first decade of the twentieth century classes E2 and E3 handled all of the fast passenger trains of the Pennsylvania Railroad. As train weights increased due to the switch to steel passenger cars and more cars per train, the “light” Atlantics were usually doubleheaded.

WHEN two ignitron rectifier freight locomotives (class E2C and E3B) were first put into service on the Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) approximately 2 years ago, the event could well have been taken as marking the golden jubilee of main-line electrification in this country.

Locomotives built or sold by the Westinghouse Electric Company. Westinghouse's transportation division (rail equipment) was founded 1894 and sold to AEG 1988, later merged into Adtranz and Bombardier. Production of locomotives ended after the early 1950s. Usually built in partnership with the Baldwin Locomotive Works.
