The EMD GP39 is a 4-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division between June 1969 and July 1970. The GP39 was a derivative of the GP38 equipped with a turbocharged EMD 645E3 12- cylinder engine which generated 2,300 hp (1.72 MW).

2023年8月1日 · Twenty-three four-axle EMD GP39s rolled out of EMD’s La Grange (Ill.) factory between June 1969 and July 1970, sporting the builder’s reliable 645E3 V12 prime mover producing 2,300 hp. Basically it was an offshoot of the popular 2,000 hp, 16-cylinder GP38 but equipped with 12-cylinder engine and a turbocharger.

The Electromotive Division GP39 is a 4 axle, 2,300 HP diesel-electric locomotive built by EMD from 1969 to 1970. The GP39 uses a 12 cylinder 645E3 engine rated at 2,300 HP. It shares the same frame as the GP38, GP38-2, GP39-2, GP40, GP40-2 and GP50.

2025年1月18日 · The GP39, introduced a couple of years after the other two, used a turbocharged 12-cylinder engine producing 2,300 horsepower. Both the GP38 and GP40 were fairly strong sellers, together accounting for more than 2,000 locomotives built. Only 23 GP39's were built, most for Chesapeake & Ohio.
