2021年9月10日 · Today we take a look at an oldie but goodie, the AN/PVS-5. The PVS-5 was the US Army’s first binocular night vision goggle. They were actually used for the USAF in the 70s. The AN/PVS-5 is a second generation binocular first adopted by the US Army in 1972. It is an early second generation dual tube device consisting of three primary variants, the latter of which lasted in various Military/Gov't forces into the early 2000's.

From 1972 until 1990 the AN/PVS-5 was the mainstay in US Army night vision for aviation. The AN/PVS-5C was not approved for flight because of its auto-gated feature causing the goggle to shut off in bright light. For ground troops the AN/PVS-5 was the sole night-vision goggle until the adaptation of the improved AN/PVS-7.
