BWRs vs PWRs. What is better and why? Shouldn't BWRs be …
2020年11月15日 · A BWR has four times as many fuel assemblies and control mechanisms as a PWR. This means that the vessel quickly becomes gigantic as power increases. - On PWR in the event of a serious accident involving the loss of the reactor coolant pumps or the loss of a steam generator, it is always possible to operate in thermosiphon mode because the SGs ...
PWR vs. BWR : r/NuclearPower - Reddit
2020年5月12日 · None of this pwr nonsense where if you lose all feedwater then core damage is an inevitability. I think calling it inevitable is a bit of a stretch. Recovery without feed might not be pretty, but it is absolutely possible. If you start mitigating actions early enough, you will likely not exceed saturation temperature at the core exit.
PWR vs BWR : r/nuclear - Reddit
2020年7月27日 · Most of the plants though have the same principal and where the BWR versus PWR question will arise is in how the plant respond to load demand changes. A PWR is essential at the control of the grid, steam demand drives reactor power; where a BWR is opposite the reactor us much less coupled to the grid. (this is a gross over simplification I know)
Why Aren't BWRs More Popular? : r/nuclear - Reddit
2021年5月10日 · Granted the EPR is overbuilt compared to other PWRs such as the AP1000, but even compared to a 1970’s PWR the ESBWR is still slightly better. So why aren’t BWRs built more? China(whom I generally consider to be a pretty rational actor) seems to be committed to PWRs with their natively produced CAP-1400 and Hualong One reactors. EPR vs ESBWR
With a PWR style containment, does a BWR offer any advantadge …
2021年3月27日 · A mark I bwr can go well over 100 psig before failure but has far less heat removal or absorption capacity. There are a lot of dynamic differences. A pwr containment does better in totally unmitigated scenarios (no cooling at all) and bwr containment’s do better in design basis scenarios (not impacted by the same containment sump issues ...
why is boiling water reactors cheaper than pwr? : r/NuclearPower
2024年4月8日 · The reactor recirculation pumps in a BWR are much smaller than a comparable size pwr due to the use of jet pumps. You have half of the energy dedicated to pumping and only have 2 pumps versus 3-4 you see in a similar large pwr. The downsize is a BWR has to load and manage 3 times more fuel assemblies.
Dumb question: Can PWR or BWR use Natural Uranium if Heavy
2022年6月29日 · Power density of reactors roughly scales with enrichment level, high enrichment = lots of power from a small core. CANDU cores are BIG which is why they use pressure tubes and a calandria. A PWR or BWR akin to western designs with heavy water would need a big fat pressure vessel that is expensive to make.
Difference between PWR and BWR? : r/AskPhysics - Reddit
2018年5月8日 · I already know that PWR has one circulation whereas BWR has two. Also, I learned that BWR make the water boil and PWR only makes the water steamy…
Question: Why is water pre-heated before entering nuclear
2022年11月6日 · Poly describes a boiling water reactor and pressurized water reactor in general where the reactor water goes through the turbine, condenser, and back to Rx itself or through steam generators (bwr vs pwr) In a pressurized water Rx the water is at 2250 psi and is circulating with core inlet at (roughly) 565 F and outlet at 620 F.
How come light water behaves sometimes more as a moderator …
2023年12月17日 · In pressurized water reactors (PWR) and boiling water reactors (BWR), light water (ordinary water, H₂O) serves as both a coolant and a neutron moderator. The primary goal of moderation is to reduce the kinetic energy of fast neutrons produced during fission, making them more likely to induce further fission reactions.
