PZL.46 Sum (sheatfish) was a light bomber developed by Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze shortly before World War II, which, was directed to serial production in the spring of 1939.

Development of the new light bomber began in 1936 and the design was intended to succeed the fleet of aging PZL.23 "Karas" platforms in same role for the Polish Air Force.

Die PZL.46 Sum (deutsch Wels) war ein polnisches Mehrzweckflugzeug im Zweiten Weltkrieg. Aufgrund einer Forderung der polnischen Luftstreitkräfte von 1936 begann Stanisław Prauss, Chefkonstrukteur des staatlichen Unternehmens PZL (Państwowe Zakłady Lotnicze), mit der Projektierung eines Nachfolgers für die PZL.23 Karaś.

The first prototype flew in October 1938. Two built.

PZL P.46/II second prototype of light bomber, attack and reconnaissance aircraft developed to replace the P.23/P.43 series. The prototype was flown to Romania and interned. In great secrecy Polish personnel managed to prepare the machine for one more important flight.
