In 2018, the Pakistan Navy commissioned another PNS Moawin (A39) which was locally engineered and constructed from the crucial design guidance from Turkey – the fleet tanker is noted for being the largest warship ever built in Pakistan.

In the maritime domain Pakistan Navy is contributing significantly towards counter-terrorism efforts of Coalition Forces. Pakistan Navy is the only regional Navy forming part of the Coalition Maritime Campaign Plan (CMCP), which is the maritime component of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF).

The Pakistan Navy (PN) or “Pākistān Bahrí’a” was created as the naval warfare branch of the Pakistan Armed Forces, under a 4 stars admiral acting as Chief of the Naval Staff and tasked of coastline surveillance between the Arabian Sea and Gulf of Oman. It was established in August 1947 after the country’s independence.

The modern Pakistan Navy fleet features a broad collection of fast-attack boats that include gunboats, rapid response solutions, and hovercraft. Some 65 are known to be in the active inventory and the stock originates both locally and through foreign suppliers in Poland, Turkiye, and the United kingdom.

These six ships are intended to replace the Navy's ageing fleet of Type 21 frigates . Active as of 2013. Originally 5 ordered, only one delivered. Received $78 million overhaul before being delivered to Pakistan . Others not delivered as a result of hampered relations. The first submarine of the class, PNS Khalid, was built entirely in France.

After the independence, Pakistan Navy has come a long way from a small flotilla of ships to a complete fleet. Pakistan Navy now consists of fully modernized ships with state of the art equipment and weapon system, latest conventional submarines, state of art MCMVs and indigenously built missile boats, fast patrol crafts and midgets submarines.

Admiral Naveed Ashraf NI (M) T Bt took over command of Pakistan Navy on 07 October 2023. Admiral Naveed Ashraf NI (M) T Bt was commissioned in Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1989. He was awarded Quaid-e-Azam Gold Medal on successful completion of initial naval training at Germany and Pakistan.
