I ran some non-sprinting speed tests in-game to actually see the difference. Timed from Plateau of Beginnings statue to the Syndicate tower, all 0-star without speed traits. 0.2x pal stamina drain to actually make the journey.

Size of the pal would be another thing to consider, since if they are too large, they cannot always be easily used in dungeons (if that matters to you). Since most mounted pals are used purely for movement (thus having 3-4 traits to buff that), a Ground Mount's best ability is probably the pals with extra jumps to help get around terrain.

I felt like putting all the information in one place. Knowing the fastest mount available for any given point in the game, and the fastest mount based on what you've already caught is pretty nice, especially when it's not very clear when condenses change the hierarchy, since not all mounts gain movement speed from condenses.

Suzaku, Shadowbeak and Ragnahawk are supposed to have the same ride sprint speed and Suzaku is supposed to have better stamina. Suzaku might still be the better mount since the speed isn't that different and the stamina is way better, but I am surprised Suzaku is slower than Beakon. Suzuku vs Beakon. Work speed is for tasks where the pal stands still and does a task, such as crafting, building, planting, watering, harvesting, cooling, kindling and powering. It does not affect grazing, mating or transporting. Movement speed does help, as it makes the pal faster, but they also end up more prone to get stuck.

Base Work Speed (BWS) - This stat is tied to the Pal, and can be upgraded with the Power Statue. Skills (MS) - These are the grayed out or colored skills with the numbers next to them.

Cooling, work speed multiplies the amount of time required for food rot, higher cooling level does the same. Pal still needs to be constantly cooling for it to apply. Work speed also increases the speed of the animations of the above, which can look pretty funny. A maxed out petallia sowing fields will spin around really fast constantly.

Each pal has a hidden rarity value, the lower the better. The formula to determine the offspring of two pals is (rarity of parent1 + rarity of parent2 + 1)/2 = rarity value of offspring. Today I bred a cinnamoth with swift and a relaxaurus with runner to get a Ragnahawk with runner and swift.
