Every so often, usually every album cycle, the current Papa is replaced by a "new" Papa. It's the same man under the mask, but a different character. Papa I was replaced by Papa II, and him by Papa III. When Papa III was forced to retire frontmanship, Cardinal Copia was chosen to succeed him, but he remained a cardinal until he proved himself.
