In mycology, a partial veil (also called an inner veil, [1] to differentiate it from the "outer", or universal veil) is a temporary structure of tissue found on the fruiting bodies of some basidiomycete fungi, typically agarics.
Partial Veil: Mushroom Walks with Jeremy Hegge
Partial Veil offers one of the only mushroom tours that focuses primarily on native fungi in native environments. Included with the walk is a custom-made Partial Veil booklet with notes on common species and a basic starter guide to fungi identification and ecology to help you remember information from the walk.

The partial veil covers the hymenophore while the mushroom develops. When the cap extends as the mushroom grows, the partial veil is pulled and can either end up as an annulus or attached to the edges of the cap. Not all mushrooms have a partial veil and those that do often look quite different from this one!
Veils & Annulus (ring) - Mushroom Identification - Mycology Start
Another vital structure is the partial veil, which shields the developing gills or pores of young mushrooms. As the cap expands, this veil breaks, often leaving an annulus, or ring, around the stipe (stem). Appendiculate veils are characterized by hanging fragments left on the cap margin after the partial veil tears away.
Partial Veils - Mushroom
The partial veil is a membrane that covers the spore-bearing surface of the mushroom while it is developing. In effect, this encloses the young spore-bearing surface in a small chamber where it’s easier for the mushroom to maintain the right humidity and temperature for …
Mushroom Veils: Universal and Partial Veils Explained
2024年11月28日 · There are two main types of mushroom veils. The universal veil encases the entire young mushroom like an egg in its shell. The growing mushroom ruptures this veil and leaves traces at the base of the stem and on the cap. The partial veil extends from the cap’s edge to the stem and protects the spore-bearing surface underneath (gills or pores).
Mushroom annulus - New Brunswick Museum
This type of veil is called a partial veil. many mushrooms have both partial and universal veils. The immature fruiting body of Cortinarius traganus, pictured at right, was split in half so that the veils could be seen. The universal veil covers the entire cap and extends down beyond the margin the form a covering arount the whole stipe.
Glossary - MushroomExpert.Com
A partial veil is a covering over the gills or pores of young, button mushrooms, serving to protect the spore-bearing surfaces until the spores have matured. The partial veil may take the form of a flimsy tissue which peels away as the mushroom matures, either disappearing or collapsing around the stem to form a ring or ring zone —or it may ...
