Peak Talgar rises with steep rocky cliffs above the firn fields of the Korzhenevsky glacier. The slopes are steep, especially the western ones, with a height difference of 1500 meters, dissected by buttresses and crevices, which are clogged with snow and ice. The peak is clearly visible from the eastern part of the city of Talgar.

Talgar peak is situated in the Zailiski range of the Northern Tien Shan Mountains. The Northern Tien Shan stretch from west to east approximately 400 km. It is divided into two ranges - the Zailiski Alatau ("the first range behind the Ili river "), and the Kungei Alatau ("bright snowy mountains facing the sun").
