May 12, 2014 · I have been on Pentasa since Feb 2014, it has helped some but my GI has continued to have to add medications. While Pentasa is not quite so scary to take than some of the others, I feel I'm going to need a change. My Crohn's is in the small intestine with D and not constipation. I'm glad I started on something a little less scary.

As the capsule travels down the intestines, the 5-ASA inside the spheres is released slowly into the intestine. Unlike Asacol, the active drug 5-ASA in Pentasa is released into the small intestine as well as the colon.
Pentasa capsules vs Pentasa slow release tablets
Sep 25, 2019 · I've been taking Pentasa capsules 500mg (4) twice daily, for the past 11 years, for Crohn's. Due to cost of the capsules, I'm having to switch to the tablets which are 500 mg, as well. Are there any differences, as far as effectiveness or anything else, in the tablet form vs capsules?

Feb 18, 2012 · Pentasa and Lialda are both mesalamine but they have different points where the are released and become active (based on pH). Penatasa becomes active in the small bowel and Lialda becomes active at the ileum - the end of the small bowel and in the colon. So if you have extensive small bowel disease Pentasa was probably better for you.

Jan 8, 2014 · Tests have shown kidneys are ok. Can the Pentasa effect the colour of urine and cause this side effect - toilet sometimes looks like the bathroom from Psycho the movie. I also wonder if the Pentasa in the urine may be reacting to cleaning chemical used in the toilet. I have seen 3 gastroentologists, Urologist and gynecologist.

Apr 1, 2012 · After my colonoscopy, my GI put me on Pentasa. After he got the biopsy results back, he added 50 mg of Azathioprine. He says the Pentasa helps break down the Azathioprine. After three months of the Pentasa and Aza combo he wants me to try the Azathioprine alone if CRP and ESR are within normal range.
