Sitting on 2.14 acres, People's Park serves Tacoma's Hilltop community with amenities for both active and passive recreation.

The People's Park is the largest public park in Waterford city, its 16.3 acres comprise the foremost public green space in the city. To make way for the construction of the park in 1857, John's river was diverted and the marshland drained.

2021年1月29日 · People’s Park originated with the public’s reaction to UC’s 1960’s land grab. UC used Eminent Domain to bulldoze the actually-affordable housing that was on that piece of land. For years, we’ve had a goal of rematriation of the land, and daylighting the creek could be a step toward that possibility, in recognizing Berkeley’s colonizing history.

At 4:45am on May 15, 1969, 300 police in riot gear cleared the Park and a fence was erected. It was the beginning of “Bloody Thursday” that would leave one bystander dead, another blinded and many, many wounded. Below are photos by Bill Haigwood after the Park was fenced in 1969.

2024年6月7日 · The new fountain, which has retained the shape and limestone capping of the previous fountain, consists of a 7-metre stainless steel spray ring with 88 individual water jets along with a dynamic colour change lighting display and a water filter system that can be monitored and accessed remotely.

2024年7月29日 · In addition to the various water features scattered around the park, one of its main draws is the 10,000 sq m man-made Lake Symphony and water fountain, which lights up the night sky with its light and musical displays daily. The urban park also regularly serves as a venue for festivals, concerts and cultural performances.

The park contains a Victorian-era bandstand, the Goff cycle track, a children's playground, a spherical monument and water feature and an old painted iron bridge connecting the park to the grounds of the Court House. The park has been renovated and upgraded in recent years.
