jack pad that wont bend pinch welds | BobIsTheOilGuy
2016年3月27日 · The pinch weld looks spindly--my reasoning is, in order to lift a car from that point, it must be pretty solid above the pinch weld, where the metal is parallel to the ground (instead of perpendicular like the pinch). So I've put my bottle jack behind the pinch and lifted--I haven't seen any sheet metal deformation, yet. I don't like it, as ...

2011年2月18日 · 2019 Cherokee Limited. Want to use my 3 ton floor jacks to lift at the pinch welds. They are beefy. The rubber pinch weld pads I use on other vehicles are too wide to fit on the pinch weld because of the molding. So I was looking at metal ones. They will fit. But i’m not sure if metal is a good...
Jack Pad for HF floor jack - BobIsTheOilGuy
2008年5月27日 · I have a cheap rubber puck one and a more expensive machined aluminum jack pad. The rubber one was a few dollars and the fab'd aluminum one was close to $20 iirc. Both intended for pinch weld jacking. The aluminum one is nice because it has magnets in it so you can secure it on the rocker panel pinch weld, then line the jack up with it.

2003年1月17日 · The jack pad teeth dig into the 2X4 and the wood distributes the load along enough of the pinch weld that it doesn't damage the pinch weld...." went a step further-realizing that a 2x4 will split along it's grain (think of your pinch weld like a axe), I sandwiched a 2x6 between two pieces of 1/2" plywood, then added two more 1x2's on one side ...
Pinch welds and jack stands - BobIsTheOilGuy
2009年4月8日 · Historically I have used a pad on the jack saddle to prevent roughing up the central support points on subframes/rear diffs but nothing on the jack stands. However, I have had some pinch weld damage on my Subaru due to this and so have started to use Harbor Freight jack stands with the custom formed pads they sell, since the profile of these ...

2016年10月31日 · At that point, the puck won't be protecting the pinch weld. Look at the pic I posted. A hockey puck is not nearly that thick.-On many cars, the factory recommended lifting point is a reinforced place on the pinch weld itself, not the rocker panel above the pinch weld, so there isn't any need to cut a slot in the puck.
Which part of the pinch weld is the strongest? | BobIsTheOilGuy
2014年11月20日 · Some people claim their OEM tire jack only contacts the pinch weld bottom while others claim their OEM jack groove allows contact on the metal next to the pinch weld. In a perfect world, I think that the puck should be sized to your particular pinch weld so that when it compresses, about 80% of the weight is supported on the pinch weld bottom ...
DIY floor jack saddle pad? - BobIsTheOilGuy
2011年10月13日 · On my vehicles, the hockey puck alone has enough give to prevent it from damaging the pinch welds. Cutting a groove in it wouldn't do anything beneficial on any of my vehicles. I think the real idea behind the groove on jack pads is that they bypass the pinch weld and lift on the rocker itself. But that wouldn't be a benefit on a lot of vehicles.
Pinch welds, Pinch welds anyone? | BobIsTheOilGuy
2017年1月14日 · Yeah gotta love the no good jack points on multi thousand dollar cars Gosh even the old VW Bugs had a better dedicated jack point. The jack points should have a 3 or 4 inch round or square pad with a 3/4 hole and the jack should have a pin to fit in the hole. Pinch welds once bent always bend that is the worse place in the world to jack at.

2023年3月18日 · On my Subaru Forester and Crosstrek the factory jack lifted the frame on the inner and outer side of the pinch weld. The factory jack was designed so no weight was on the pinch weld itself but on either side of it. The pinch weld just held the jack in the proper place so it did not move/slide in or out. Obviously other cars could be different.
