Pituitary. The pituitary gland is composed of an anterior and posterior lobes. Anterior Pituitary - contains three divisions; Pars Distalis - comprises most of the anterior lobe (~75%) and contains five types of endocrine cells. Chromophils - stain with H&E and secrete hormones.

Pituicytes are the glial cells of the pituitary gland; the nuclei that are visible in sections of posterior pituitary belong to these cells, as well as cells of the vasculature. A third section of the pituitary, the intermediate lobe, is vestigial in man.
