Polar bears are adapted to cold weather with their thick fur and large paws, which help them distribute their weight without breaking through ice. Their black footpads are covered with small, soft bumps called papillae that help them grip on slippery surfaces. They also have tufts of fur between their toes and footpads for additional grip.

Standing up to 12 feet tall and weighing up to 1,600 pounds, polar bears have no natural predators. Intelligent, patient, and strong, they are built to rule the Arctic. Although they are the largest land carnivore on Earth, polar bears are excellent swimmers and spend most of their lives traversing between sea ice floes.
