Pomerania (Polish: Pomorze [pɔˈmɔʐɛ] ⓘ; German: Pommern ⓘ; Kashubian: Pòmòrskô; Swedish: Pommern) is a historical region on the southern shore of the Baltic Sea in Central Europe, split between Poland and Germany.

The history of Pomerania starts shortly before 1000 AD, with ongoing conquests by newly arrived Polan rulers. Before that, the area was recorded nearly 2000 years ago as Germania, and in modern times Pomerania has been split between Germany and Poland. Its name comes from the Old Polish po more, which means "(land) at the sea". [1]

2024年3月25日 · The Pomeranian is a descendant of spitz-type sled dogs from Iceland and Lapland (Finland). Several hundred years ago, these Pom predecessors made their way to Pomerania, located in what is now Poland and Germany, according to the American Kennel Club. While there, breeders somewhat diminished the dogs' size.

Pomeranians are part of the ancient spitz family of dogs. While the AKC places them in their Toy group, other major kennel clubs place them in their Spitz and Primitive Breeds group. The Pomeranian comes from Pomerania, in what is now part of northern Poland and Germany. They are known as the Zwergspitz (dwarf spitz) in its native Germany.
