The Potez 540 was a French multi-role aircraft of the 1930s. Designed and built by Potez, it served with the French Air Force as a reconnaissance bomber, also serving with the Spanish Republican Air Force during the Spanish Civil War.

On November 14, 1933, the first flight of a new reconnaissance bomber platform called the "Potez 540" was recorded. This relatively large aircraft was developed to meet the requirements of the French Air Force for this type and is largely financed by the companies themselves.

The Potez 540 is delivered in units from May 1935. It will equip the GR and GAO of Reconnaissance and Groups of Bombardment. Slightly modified, it becomes 540 TOE or 542 TOE to serve units overseas.
