Located in Burke County in the northwestern part of North Dakota, Powers Lake was incorporated in 1909. The present governing body consists of a Mayor and a Council. Powers Lake's economy is made up of ranching and agriculture.

Powers Lake has two city parks with basketball courts, one with a tennis court. There are two public campgrounds with electricity. The campgrounds over look the lake. The Origins of Powers Lake. Sometime in the early 1890’s an early pioneer, John J. Power, his wife, family and a band of purebred sheep moved up the White Earth Valley and set up his sheep ranch headquarters and corrals on the south shore of a large lake.
