Since 1949, PRAKTICA products have been held by those who lead, perform and experience the unthinkable. Notably in 1978, PRAKTICA were the first cameras used in a manned space program organised by the Soviets.

Praktica was a brand of camera manufactured by Pentacon in Dresden in eastern Germany, within the GDR between 1949 and the German reunification in 1990. The firm Pentacon was divided in mainly two parts and sold after German reunification.

It accepts M42 lenses, a threaded mount with 1 millimeter threads and a diameter of 42mm, but does not have a mechanism for internally stopping down later lenses, a feature introduced in the Contax SLR family and used nearly universally later.
