Prince Eugene Francis of Savoy-Carignano [1] (18 October 1663 – 21 April 1736), better known as Prince Eugene, was a distinguished field marshal in the Army of the Holy Roman Empire and of the Austrian Habsburg dynasty during the 17th and 18th centuries.

Eugene of Savoy (born Oct. 18, 1663, Paris, France—died April 24, 1736, Vienna, Austria) was a field marshal and statesman of the Carignan line of the House of Savoy, who, in the service of the Austrian Holy Roman emperor, made his name as one of the greatest soldiers of his generation.

Prince Eugene of Savoy is regarded as one of the most important military commanders and statesmen in Austrian history. He entered the service of the Habsburgs in 1683 and rapidly advanced to become commander-in-chief of the imperial army, securing a number of major victories over the Ottoman Empire and in the War of Spanish Succession.
