Prince of Songkla University was established in accordance with the Southern Development Plan Policy, with the intention from the beginning to become the main university in the south in terms of delivering graduates and research, providing academic services, and maintaining arts and culture.

The Language and Academic Outreach Center, Faculty of Liberal Arts, Prince of Songkla University operates under the main mission of the Faculty of Liberal Arts in academic outreach, which is to create academic excellence in language, culture, and human development in accordance with the needs of society.

The 60 first-generation students of the Faculty of Science admitted in 1969, and staff from various units of the university also moved to Hat Yai Campus in the first semester of the academic year 1972. Therefore, it is considered that Prince of Songkla University has moved its office to Hat Yai district, Songkhla province permanently in 1972.
