May 8, 2023 · This study reports the identification of a novel ambigrammatically encoded naked RNA virus, Puccinia striiformis virus 5 (PsV5), in wheat stripe rust. Using immune technology, the RdRp ORF and rORF of PsV5 were confirmed to encode proteins, and using transgenic technology, the presence of PsV5 was shown to enhance the virulence of the rust fungus.
