PUJ is the junction between the pelvis of the kidney and the ureter (the tube between the kidney and the bladder). PUJ obstruction refers to a narrowing of the junction, resulting in obstruction to the flow of the urine from the kidney to the ureter. The condition affects approximately one person in every 1000 adults and tends to occur more in men.

2016年11月8日 · The stent help keeps the incised PUJ open and maintains renal drainage. Endopyelotomy is a reasonable option in patients with mild-to-moderate hydronephrosis and reasonably good renal function. The area of stricture should be short (<1.5 cm), and no crossing vessels should be defined on preoperative or intraoperative imaging.

A ureteric stent is left in for 4-6 weeks. It less effective than pyeloplasty for treatment of PUJ obstruction and is thus not our first choice for treatment of a PUJ obstruction. It has a role in cases where a primary pyeloplasty was unsuccessful.
