The Aérospatiale SA 330 Puma is a four-bladed, twin-engined medium transport/utility helicopter designed and originally produced by the French aerospace manufacturer Sud Aviation. The Puma was developed as a new design during the mid-1960s in response to a French Army requirement for a medium-sized all-weather utility helicopter.

The Puma HC.Mk 2 medium support helicopter operates under Joint Aviation Command (JAC) control. The aircraft is used in a variety of combat roles, including the tactical movement of troops, weapons, ammunition and stores on the battlefield, as well as the extraction of casualties and in response to medical emergencies on the frontline.

A twin-engined all weather, day or night transport helicopter, the Puma was originally developed as the Sud Aviation SA 330A Alouette IV to fill an Aviation Legere del l' Armee de Terre (French Army Aviation, ALAT) requirement for a medium troop transport helicopter following its experiences in Algeria.

Powered by twin 1115kW Turbomeca Turmo IVC turboshafts the Puma can carry sixteen combat troops at 260kph for a range of 555km. In 1977 a licence was granted for the Puma to be built in Romania.

Le SA 330 fut conçu par Sud-Aviation en 1962, afin de répondre à une demande de l'ALAT, qui cherchait un hélicoptère de transport tactique et de tonnage moyen capable d'opérer par tous temps, y compris sous des climats difficiles. Le But de l'ALAT était de remplacer ses H-34 par un appareil capable de voler à plus de 250 km/h en croisière.
