QAR is useful as a student tool in providing a basis for three comprehension strategies: locating information, determining text structures and how they convey information, and determining when an inference would be required.

Students must think about what they learned from the text and what they know to generate an answer. For example: Where does this person live? Why did the author...? What does this person do for a living? When does this story take place?

Use an instructional-level text to have students practice the QAR strategy (see Suggested Booklist for Civil Rights).
