2019年4月26日 · I am seriously considering electrostatic speakers although living in a part of the world where dealership for both brands do not have all models on hand for audition. While the 2912's were unavailable, a Quad 2812 was available a month ago for audition. It was in an all Quad setup, with a solid state and a 40 watts tube amp for comparison.

2018年11月9日 · Those speakers, which I had purchased in 1973, had been dormant since about 1990-- they play wonderfully now, with a protection circuit, being driven by a pair of restored vintage Quad II amps (with GEC KT 66s!).

2018年11月27日 · I have Martin Logan CLX speakers which have a nasty impedance curve in the treble with a minimum of 0.7 ohms at about 18 to 20 kHz - or so I have read. The impedance of the CLX is, as many know, largely capacitive. Over the years I have preferred tube amps and have heard OTL amps driving various Quad speakers with great results.

2009年4月22日 · In an attempt to improve speaker sensitivity Quad raised the polarizing voltage on the 98 series. This voltage increase raises sensitivity by a mere 1dB but can greatly reduce electrostatic element life. We believe this is a bad trade-off in performance versus service life and reduce the polarizing voltage to the original Quad ESL63 standard.

2013年9月12日 · I have owned a pair of Quad 2905 for six years problem-free. These are my favorites amongst the high end speakers I have owned so far. But lately one of the panel start to buzz and pop 30 minutes into my listening session. Does it mean that I have panel failure? I am puzzled because I am sure I did not over-drive the speaker.

2019年2月10日 · Electrostatic speakers failed QUICKLY under mid-powered amps--a Phase Linear 700 would launch them to the moon, I suppose-- and they tend to be both shirll and beamy. If a new inventor has conquered these issues, I suggest you try them out in YOUR ROOM next to a pair of Magnepans of equal quality.

2024年8月14日 · I have owned Quad ESL-63s electrostatic speakers since I imported them from England in March of 1985. I imported Quad amp and preamp at the same time but eventually replaced the electronics with a tube amplifier, an Audiomat Arpege integrated amplifier from a French company that is 30 wpc.

2022年3月21日 · Since I own just one pair of Quad Electrostatic Speakers, I find myself with one speaker while the other one is with my repair technician. The antidote is to play a lot of mono recordings. Mainly classical and jazz but some rock, roots, western swing, etc...
