R2-Q5 was an R2 series astromech droid. Made by Industrial Automaton, he served the Galactic Empire aboard the DS-2 Death Star II Mobile Battle Station, performing maintenance and repair as needed. Like many Imperial astromechs, he was fitted with spy devices allowing human overseers to monitor personnel. [1]

R2 units specialize in starship diagnostics and repairs. However, Imperial designers consider astromechs to be unnecessary weight for their short range TIE fighters. On the second Death Star, R2-Q5 helps maintain the station's elaborate weapons and security systems, and also services all Tie fighters and bombers.

R2-Q5 was a droid owned by the Empire. He was aboard the Death Star II when it exploded, and was killed. The R2-Q5 minifigure first appeared in the Imperial Star Destroyer set. He was the old version of an astromech droid, with his head only taking up half of the dome piece.

Two years before the battle of Yavin, R2-Q5 was present on a bar on Bespin named "Vapor Room". The little astromech witnessed a small skirmish between Imperial troops and Galen Marek.
