This 1983 BMW R65LS was sold new by Marty’s Foreign Motors in Torrance, California to Supertramp member John Helliwell and was acquired by its current owner in March 2016, reportedly from its second owner of 30 years in New Mexico. Power is from a 648cc boxer twin mated to a five-speed transmission, and the bike is finished in red and black.

The BMW R65 is a light touring motorcycle introduced by BMW in 1978 to add a mid-size motorcycle to its product line. The original R65, contrary to the views of some commentators, has the same sized frame as the larger R series motorcycles.

Born in 1981, the R65LS was an enlarged version of the R60. BMW accomplished this primarily by boring out the cylinders of the R60 and increasing the displacement from 600cc to 650cc. The origin of the motor's basic design dates back to 1923.

The R65 LS was a slight modification of the R65, and included sportier styling, different cast wheels, and dual front disc brakes. The LS model also has black exhaust pipes, instead of chrome like the regular R65. In fact, the LS has no chrome on it at all.
