The C-27J Spartan complements the Australian Defence Force's existing air mobility fleet. The first Spartan arrived in Australia in 2015. The fleet of 10 aircraft are operated by No. 35 Squadron and based at RAAF Base Amberley. The capabilities of the C-27J bridge the gap between Army helicopters and larger Air Force aircraft.

In December 2011, the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) issued a Foreign Military Sales request for 10 C-27Js valued at US$950m to replace its retired DHC-4 Caribou fleet.

2014年3月4日 · Launched in 1997, the C-27J Spartan tactical transport aircraft incorporates the same propulsion system and advanced avionics as the C-130J Hercules Transporter. The C-27J has been developed by Lockheed Martin Alenia Tactical Transport Systems (LMATTS).

AIR 8000 Phase 2 was approved to replace the retired Caribou capability and provide the Australian Defence Force (ADF) with an enhanced intra-theatre and regional airlift capability through acquisition of a fleet of ten Light Tactical Fixed Wing aircraft.

2019年5月8日 · In 1990 the type was selected by the US Air Force as a ‘Rapid-response Intra-Theater Airlifter’ and it became known as the C-27 Spartan, ten being obtained. These aircraft were stationed at Howard Air Force Base in Panama in Central America.

2018年4月18日 · The delivery was marked with a flying display and ceremony at RAAF Base Richmond on Wednesday, and is the latest milestone for the AIR 8000 Phase 2 program which saw 10 C-27Js ordered in 2012 to replace the capability lost with the retirement of the DHC-4 Caribou in 2009.
