RAAF Base Wagga, located in New South Wales, has been an integral part of the Wagga Wagga community since 1940. RAAF Wagga delivers: initial military training through No 1 Recruit Training Unit; initial and post-initial employment training for ADF aviation maintenance personnel through the RAAF School of Technical Training

It is the main ground training base for RAAF Aviators of the technical, administration and logistics trades, as well as the location for initial courses for Administration and Logistics Officers. RAAF Wagga is also home to most Air Force Professional Military Education.

RAAF Base Wagga is known as the ‘Home of the Airman’, as the base is responsible for delivering Air Force Recruit training, as well as technical and non-technical Initial and Post Employment Training to both airwomen and airmen.

About the base All enlisted into the RAAF complete Recruit Training at the 1st Recruit Training Unit. RAAF Base Wagga is also a major centre for technical and non-technical, initial employment training and postgraduate training.

The RAAF Wagga Aviation Heritage Centre is located in the old Guard House at the entrance to RAAF Base Wagga at Forest Hill, ten kilometres east of the CBD of Wagga Wagga, along the Sturt Highway. The entrance to the base is easily recognisable by the static aircraft on display next to the Aviation Heritage Centre.

RAAF Wagga Heritage Centre is a military museum at RAAF Base Wagga, on the Sturt Highway, Forest Hill, New South Wales. The heritage centre has indoor and outdoor displays of aircraft, memorabilia and photographs relating to the Royal Australian Air Force in the Riverina.

The Aviation Heritage Centre at RAAF Base Wagga was originally opened in 1995 as the ‘RAAF Museum - Wagga Annex’ to provide a focus on the RAAFs involvement in the Riverina and to provide access to the history and memorabilia of military aviation and military training.

RAAF Base Wagga is the only Base from the impressive Riverina war effort still operational today. In 1942, Headquarters No2 Training Group was established at Romano’s Commercial Hotel in Wagga Wagga to co-ordinate flying training at the RAAF Schools across the Riverina.

The RAAF Wagga Aviation Heritage Centre showcases Air Force history, along with representing the significant involvement of the RAAF in the Riverina region of New South Wales.
