2009年1月18日 · Strictly speaking, "4X4" refers to a vehicle with four wheels, all of which are powered. It's the difference between "4WD" and "AWD" that's less clear-cut, but generally, 4WD implies a low range; AWD does not, regardless of whether it's full-time or on-demand AWD as with the RAV4. 4x4abc.com has a good explanation.

2013年6月22日 · It may be the same as AWD or even 4X4, but often implies some kind of option to either manually or automatically apply power to the rear wheels when needed in a normally front wheel drive vehicle. Our RAV4s have a sophisticated electro-coupling to accomplish it. 4X4 is almost exclusively reserved for rear-wheel drive trucks like my F-250s.
